Cape Blanco

It was thought that Spanish explorers probably named Cape Blanco for the fossilled shells they saw on the face of the cliff. The bluff, on the contrary, is a dark and ruddy color, framed by mountains and forrests. Cape Blanco Lighthouse, Oregon's oldes and tallest beacon in continuous use, has the original first-ordered Fresnel lens from 1870. Its signa, some 245 feet above the sea, can be seen for a distance of 20 miles.

They offer tours and on Friday and Saturday evenings (barring bad weather) you can spend two hours up in the lighthouse. Michael and his wife Theresa will tell you the story of the lighthouse and serve refreshments. The tour is by reservation. Siskayous Escapes
